ANNOUNCING OUR FIRST ORGANIZING BOOTCAMP AT UCF

Our goal is to empower students and ensure they have the tools they need to become leaders on their campus and in their professional lives

[Orlando, FL - January 8, 2023] Today, Rep. Anna V. Eskamani announced that on February 4th, People Power For Florida will launch its inaugural organizing bootcamp -– a training for local college and high school students where they will learn best practices for political organizing, community outreach, digital strategy, and go in-depth about the upcoming 2023 Legislative Session.

People Power for Florida has hosted voter registration events at FSU, FAMU, UF, UCF, USF, FIU, FAU, FGCU, Florida Southern, Eastern Florida State College, Polk State College, Broward College, and Hillsborough Community College campuses since launching in 2021 to reach the group of Floridians aged 18 to 25 that have historically been least likely to vote in elections. Another focus of People Power for Florida has been to build lasting power and create an infrastructure of organizers statewide that can engage and register voters in unique ways and ensure that groups that have traditionally been left behind by political parties get civically involved.

This event will feature special guest speakers that will share their expertise with students as well as a detailed presentation on what it takes to effect change on their campuses and in their communities. Guests include Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost and former State Representative Carlos Guillermo Smith along with community partners like Equal Ground Florida and local political strategists too.

“Our goal is to empower students and ensure they have the tools they need to become leaders on their campus and in their professional lives,” said People Power for Florida founder Representative Anna V. Eskamani. “We know that students and public education are under attack in Florida -- the more reason to organize on our college campuses and equip students with the knowledge and support they need to craft a better and brighter future for Florida”

In addition to the UCF Organizing Bootcamp, People Power for Florida will be hosting a strategy call for its network of 4,100+ volunteers entitled “New Year, New Florida!” to preview the role Floridians can play during the upcoming Legislative Session and how they can take action in their communities–along with continuing to register voters. You can learn more and RSVP here.

In 2022, People Power for Florida collected 5,013 voter registration forms and 8,941 forms since its inception in 2021. In 2023, People Power Florida plans to continue registering voters and expanding its mission to include voter education as well.
