PEOPLE POWER FOR FLORIDA ANNOUNCES FIRST-EVER SUMMER DORM STORMS
New Partnership with genCLEO and Youth Action Fund Brings Voter Registration to Five Campuses During Summer Move-Ins

[FLORIDA – June, 2025] People Power for Florida is proud to announce the launch of its inaugural summer Dorm Storms, expanding its signature move-in voter registration effort to meet students earlier than ever before.

Running from June 21 to June 28, the Summer Dorm Storms will take place at the University of Central Florida (UCF), the University of Florida (UF), Florida State University (FSU), and the University of South Florida (USF). This special effort is being organized in partnership with genCLEO and the Youth Action Fund (YAF) to ensure students moving into campus housing over the summer have the opportunity to register to vote, update their registration, and learn more about what's at stake in 2025 and beyond.

WHEN:

  • Saturday, June 21, 2025 | 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

    • Locations: University of Central Florida, Florida State University

  • Saturday, June 28, 2025 | 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

    • Location: University of South Florida, University of Florida

“Students don’t stop moving in just because it’s summer, and neither do we,” said Juan Ardila, Organizing Director at People Power for Florida. “Summer move-ins are a key moment to connect with students one-on-one and help them take that first step in their new communities.”

People Power for Florida pioneered the Dorm Storm model in 2021, building the state’s largest move-in voter registration operation. This summer expansion marks a new chapter in the organization’s deep commitment to youth engagement and year-round democracy building.

“Young organizers and activists are at the heart of voter registration work across Florida,” said Allison Minnerly, Deputy Executive Director of Youth Action Fund. “We’re proud to register voters alongside this coalition of youth-led organizations and ensure students can access their right to vote.”

With weekly voter contact planned across Florida’s campuses this fall, People Power for Florida continues to lead on student-focused civic engagement. Since its founding, the organization has registered nearly 10,000 Floridians to vote, with thousands more reached through training, organizing, and conversation.

genCLEO is the youth program under the CLEO Institute, dedicated to mobilizing students to climate action in their communities.

Youth Action Fund (YAF) is a Gen-Z led 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to breaking down barriers to activism by providing resources to young people in Florida. Founded by student leaders of the 2022 “Don’t Say Gay” high school walkouts, YAF provides stipends, coaching and organizing opportunities to students so that they can lead powerful issue-based campaigns and mutual aid projects across the state.

Since 2021, People Power for Florida has registered nearly 10,000 people to vote. In 2024, People Power Florida continued its mission to empower young voters, completing its inaugural seven-stop Organizing Bootcamp tour to train students in power-building and best practices. It has also maintained a commitment to building a multi-generational, multi-class, multi-racial coalition of voters from every corner of the state that shows up in every election.
